RSLL Spring Season Ends with Lots of Excitement

It was a busy week for Reading Softball Little League as the 2024 spring season came to a close. First up was Championship Day where top teams at each level played to determine the Minors Division, Majors Division, Juniors Division and Seniors Division champions.

This season was the inaugural season of teams representing colleges from around the US. In the Minors division, Clemson faced off against Georgia, at the Majors division UCLA and Alabama faced off while Oklahoma and Florida State faced off in both the Juniors and Seniors divisions.

The Birch Meadow complex hosted the 4 games, a cookout for family and friends and the second annual paper drive for the Reading Food Pantry. RSLL is very thankful and so pleased that families and friends donated to the paper drive.

Championship Day was followed by the Senior All Star game where the Reading Police and Fire Departments were honored. Teams and coaches submitted 4 players from each of our 6 Senior teams for a total of 12 players on each All Star team. Team Police was coached by Steve Puglielli and Team Fire by Bill Ahlert, the coaches of the two Senior teams that faced off on Championship Day. Each coach was assisted by coaches from the remaining 6 teams. Every senior team had players and a coach participate in the game. And of course Team Police had Officer Rusty on the bench.

The game opened with the Reading Police Color Guard presenting the colors during the national anthem and representatives of the Fire Department in attendance. Following this was the presentation, for the 4th consecutive year, of the RSLL Achievement Award to graduating Reading Senior Softball participants. RSLL was proud to honor this years awardees. The 2024 recipients included Emily Eagleston, Holly Gilson, Kalliope Doherty and Gianna Carciero. In addition to the Achievement Awards, Olivia Moreno was presented with the 2024 Spirit Award.

The league has now kicked off the summer in town season and has numerous players participating on summer travel teams. Play Ball!
